English born Chris Mead moved to the USA and studied photography with Irving Penn, Helmut Newton, Francesco Scavullo and many more. Chris moved into fashion photography for many years then started doing interior and decoration books back when Martha Stewart started with Random House
Over a number of years, he published 12 of the first ever square coffee table books on decoration, gardens and cooking which sold over 750 000 copies!
Chris bought his first house in The Hamptons in 1980, which appeared as an 8-page spread in House Beautiful. The same year, he opened his antique store as a hobby and continued to bring in over 150 containers from England and Europe. Chris has had several home furnishings stores thought-out the Hamptons for over 25 years.
Having sold to NY’s top designers and Hamptons home owners the store has evolved to sell everything for the home with a large mix of modern and antique, and sells throughout the USA. Famous for their ever changing and carefully curated collections of antique and modern home furnishings the regular English country client often visits every week, looking for inspiration and checking out new trends in design and decoration.
Chris works with his team of qualified designers and staff, some who have been with him for over 20 years. His team specialize in decorating summer homes whilst having the largest fabric library on the east end of long island, means the English country home designers have access to the latest in design trends in fabrics and wall paper.
Chris Mead has created a unique shopping experience at The New English Country Home Store, one that has defied the internet explosion and has become a must-see destination location for anyone visiting the Hamptons. A common statement is if you can’t find it at English Country, you won’t find it anywhere!
